I find myself unable to sleep. The sea was gentle a few hours ago, but now the entire sea is roiling as though stirred by the God of the Old Testament.
Some hours ago, nausea seized me, so I made my way up to the bridge where I found Dr Philips practising his astronomy. He’s a kind old man and seemed happy for me to keep him company as I write. I can’t help but watch him out of the corner of my eye. Modern times have given way to rapid technology, yet the old ways of navigation survive!
Heavy storm clouds blotted out the stars, so Dr Philips took the time to research. Before him was a large almanack of constellations.
I was greeted with a welcoming smile and an invitation to sit.
I took up the offer, though I did not stay long before my stomach lurched once again.
I did the doctor good night and returned to my quarters.
There, I distracted myself by re-familiarising myself with the mission notes. They were sparse, which is typical. The nature of the objects we guard requires ignorance. Men in my line of work who gave in to curiosity spiralled into obsession and eventually madness. It is the way of the daemonic to fill your thoughts and replace them with its horrible agenda.
And so few have seen the artefact stored in the ship's hold.
I know nothing save that it is a piece of something larger, something that needed to be destroyed for the good of all.
Ah, I hear another companion approaching.

I like how the tone and atmosphere is almost Edwardian, but it’s taking place in the 2000s.
I love the images! They really help with creating a picture in my head.
