I'm starting a petition for more Nordic writing from The Chronicler! This was absolutely phenomenal and I am yearning for more written in this style. 😫 I am a sucker for anything Norse mythology, and you really knocked it out of the park!

Thank you so much! It was really fun to write. You might not have to wait long for Nordic (ish) content, but the style definitely carries over to my fantasy work.

🫡 I'll see what else I can drum up in the future!

Man, how do you have time to put out all this quality work! We don't really hear much about the Vikings before the raids on more literate people. This is an interesting imagining of what they might have been like before that.

I love this!! My family is all Scandinavian and we grew up with Norse mythology and folklore so I love Norse... everything. I freaking love how you wrote Mimir’s well into this. Very cool🖤

Thank you so much! It was really fun weaving it in and even more fun to hear when people catch it :D

This is brilliant!! I was hooked from ‘the world was poised for the end’, what a great opening and the rest certainly did not disappoint!

0_0. I confess much of my knowledge of the Norse gods comes from the Marvel movies (and a bit I've read about Thrud, Thor's daughter); I...did not know about 536 or that the Vikings had sacrifices. Wow. This was incredible.

Thank you! I'm 100% sure that I've made a lot of mistakes. In terms of human sacrifices, I'm not sure how common it was. I imagine if there were more physical proof, they might've also been destroyed by the then-new practitioners of Christianity. It was really interesting to do background research for this little project!

I love this! I’m amazed at how quickly you churn out so many fantastic stories! Coincidentally , I’m low-key obsessed with volcanic winters, and this was such a phenomenal and gripping depiction of how such a strange event must have seemed to people who experienced the fallout without knowing the cause.

Excellent, just excellent, Maya, on many levels, from the story, throughline in history, to its rendering.

Enraptured.

Fully and completely drawn in.

There wasn't a single moment where I didn't feel fully invested. Granted, you know full well how much I adore writing that draws from old Norse cultures, given that the mainstay of the stories I've written borrow from exactly that, so it's hard to argue that I'm not biased.

But who cares? From start to finish this story fully gripped me. I LOVE THIS.

I also have to know - the little girl being named Bothild, coincidence? Did we both happen to pick the name by chance, or did I perhaps inspire you a little ;)

I chose their names by meaning--a total coincidence, but a happy one!

Thank you so much! I have drawn on Norse mythology before but never attempted anything so direct. I'm really glad that it met its mark!
